Jordan Securities Commission Receives a Student Delegation from the University of Jerusalem/Palestine

On Monday April 25th.2011 Jordan Securities Commission (JSC) & capital market institutions received a student delegation from the University of Jerusalem in Palestine. The visit comes within a university course titled ‘Principles of Investment’ taught at the Faculty of Developmental Sciences, to present Jordan experience in the capital market, achievements of previous years & mechanisms of performance. As well as, to view the role played by national capital market institutions, efforts made to elevate the market according to contemporary international standards, develop a suitable environment for investment & protect investors & dealers in securities.
Dr. Bassam Saket, (JSC) Chairman, welcomed students & expressed delight in meeting Palestinian brothers. Dr. Saket stressed, Jordanian & Palestinian deep ties, our people mutual interests, the Hashemite Family endless efforts to alleviate pain on Palestinian brothers & provide them with all possible means of assistance in all fields. Dr. Saket indicated, strength & fortification of Jordan is that of all Arabs, particularly Palestinians. Dr. Saket emphasized the importance of such visits to acquire skills & the role of educated youth in elevating status of the Arab nation.
JSC presentation indicated its responsibilities as a monitoring entity regulating the capital market & protecting investors in securities, its efforts to upgrade the national capital market & achieve a supportive saving & investment environment that is transparent, efficient & has the rule of law. Students indicated their wish to be acquainted in particular, with work mechanism of some (JSC) departments & thus met a number of directors of these departments: Issuance, Disclosure, Research, Licensing & Inspection & Surveillance.       
A detailed presentation was provided by the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) about its activities during 2010 & major developments witnessed in the financial market since its establishment. Students were also briefed on the (ASE) Electronic Trading System. While, the Securities Depository Center (SDC) presented its major businesses & responsibilities such as, keeping ownership rights, depositing & clearing & settlement executed by virtue of Delivery versus Payment System.
Discussions between students & lecturers were held at the end of meeting, to answer their questions & inquiries of any issues related to the securities market & of duties of capital market institutions.
At the end of visit, Dr. Jamal Halaweh representative of the University of Jerusalem granted Dr. Bassam Saket the University of Jerusalem Trophy as an appreciation & gratitude to (JSC), people in charge & capital market institutions, for such a great meeting & valuable information provided over three days. As well as, for their continuous diligence to communicate & cooperate with all Arab & international sectors & institutions & enhance the culture of investment. Dr. Halaweh also stressed the importance of holding numerous meetings in the future between our people.
It is worthy to mention that (JSC) & capital market institutions receive regularly various local & international delegations of students to encourage & enhance the culture of investment for all society sectors, in a manner that enhances continuity & cooperation with Arab & international institutions.
