Jordan Securities Commission Organizes Workshop to Raise Awareness of Personal Data Protection Law for Personnel

Jordan Securities Commission JSC organized an awareness workshop for its personnel at its headquarters, in cooperation with the Personal Data Protection Unit at the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship MoDEE.
The aim of the workshop is to raise awareness of Personal Data Protection Law and the Commission’s commitment to comply with the law and best practices. JSC personnel were acknowledged with the aspects of the law, concepts of governance and protection of personal data in line with international best practices.
The workshop reviewed legal and technical aspects of personal data protection and focused on several key areas, including the legal environment for personal data protection globally and nationally by introducing the provisions of the Personal Data Protection Law No. (24) for the Year 2023, identifying mechanisms for personal data processing as well as, key roles in data management, including the administrator, processor, controller and the rights of the owner of such data. It also discussed, the provisions of the controller, standards for appointment and registration, duties and obligations thereof, and the responsibilities of the administrator therein and the responsibilities of data processing entities.
The workshop clarified main concepts in the law; distinguishing between personal and sensitive data and rights of data stakeholders, such as obtaining prior to consent and exceptions thereto.
It discussed the conditions for data processing, obligations of data processing entities, reporting mechanism upon incidents, administrative and judicial penalties as well as, legislations governing personal data protection, including regulations, instructions and guidelines.
The workshop reviewed procedures and steps for registering data protection administrators, processors and monitors in a specified register. In accordance with the law, the Personal Data Protection Unit at MoDEE shall be in charge of duties and responsibilities of opening, organizing and supervising such register.
The workshop stressed on continuous coordination and cooperation between the JSC and MoDEE to hold further events and workshops to achieve our mutual goals, national objectives, Economic Modernization Vision and Digital Transformation Plan to establish a secure digital and investment environment.
