The Jordan Securities Commission Participates in Meetings of the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC) and the Africa-Middle East Regional Committee (AMERC)

The Jordan Securities Commission participated in the annual conference of the committees of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), held in Cairo, Egypt, from December 20-23. Jordan is a member of both the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC) and the Africa-Middle East Regional Committee (AMERC). The Commission's delegation was headed by Dr. Adel Bino, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. The Commission's participation in these committee meetings underscores the Kingdom's presence in relevant international organizations, contributing to the exchange of expertise and information with representatives of member states. It also provides an opportunity to attract investors by enhancing oversight to achieve the highest levels of integrity, fairness, and transparency, protecting investors and the market from potential risks. Furthermore, it reaffirms the Commission's active role at the international level and its position as a key member of IOSCO.
The meetings discussed Topics related to developing and growing emerging financial markets, the challenges they face, and proposed solutions were discussed. Key issues such as financial technology (FinTech), potential risks, sustainable finance, crypto assets, and how to enhance the role of FinTech and democratize capital were also addressed. The integration of banking and non-banking financial services in the digital age, measures to protect individual investors amidst the rapid digitization of financial activities, the impact of FinTech on green finance, financial inclusion in the digital world, and investor awareness and education in the era of digital transformation were all discussed. The session also touched upon enhancing market efficiency and integrity, financial data governance, and how FinTech can leverage advanced analytics and critical data to gain valuable insights, enabling more informed decision-making, risk assessment, and the detection of potential fraud.
The Africa and Middle East Regional Committee is one of four regional committees established by IOSCO to consider regional issues related to securities regulation in the Africa and Middle East region. The Emerging Markets Committee aims to promote the development and effectiveness of emerging securities markets by setting the necessary principles and standards and providing Training programs and technical assistance for members, and facilitating the exchange of information, technological resources and expertise.
